Seasoned BJP leader gets elected third time from Shahdol LS seat

On Tuesday, Singh was elected for the third time to the Lok Sabha from Shahdol. Born on May 22, 1953 at Kohka village in Umaria district, Singh was elected to Lok Sabha in 1996 and 1998 and was a member of advisory committees of Energy, Steel and Coal ministries.
Singh began his political career in 1966 as a member of Praja Socialist Party.
He was general secretary of Shahdol district Praja Socialist Party in 1971-72 and was elected to Vidhan Sabha in 1977 and became Minister of State for Planning and Statistics.
He was President of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh in 1980-81, and was elected to Vidhan Sabha in 1980. He was president of BJP’s Shahdol unit, and also a member of BJP’s state working committee. In 1990, he became Minister of State for Forests and later Minister of State for Jails.
Singh was again elected to Vidhan Sabha in 1993 and was a member of various departmental advisory committees. He contested successfully in 2003 and in 2008 from Bandhavgarh Vidhan Sabha constituency.
In between, he was elected MP twice from Shahdol. Singh was re-elected to Vidhan Sabha from Bandhavgarh constituency in Umaria district in 2013, and was minister for SC and ST welfare.
