Aishwarya Rai pens tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, shares throwback photos on Instagram
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan paid a moving tribute to the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Sunday. The actor posted a series of photo from 2000 to her Instagram and captioned it, “Respect. Rest In Peace.”
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee died at a Delhi hospital on Thursday, after being put on life support. Days after his death, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan — who met the then Prime Minister alongside late actor Sridevi in 2000 — shared photos of the two on Instagram on Sunday. Along with the photos, Aishwarya posted a simple and touching tribute that read: “Respect. Rest In Peace.”
Aishwarya’s post also gives a glimpse into her meeting with the late Prime Minister and BJP leader. Vajpayee left an indelible mark on several personalities from the world of Indian cinema, including Aishwarya’s father-in-law, actor Amitabh Bachchan, who mourned his death with a Twitter tribute on Thursday. Actors Rajinikanth, Priyanka Chopra, Vivek Oberoi and Dhanush also reacted to the sad news with an outpouring of tributes on social media.
“I’m saddened to hear the demise of a great statesman Shri.Vajpayee ji. May his soul rest in peace,” wrote Rajinikanth. “The nation will always remember (his visionary ideas and contributions),” wrote Priyanka.
Others who wrote fondly about Vajpayee include the iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar, and actors Boman Irani and Randeep Hooda, who shared a poem on Twitter. They praised Vajpayee’s openness, the admiration he received even from his critics and his skills as an orator and poet.
