Sulochana, who has worked with Amitabh in films like Muqadddar Ka Sikander (1978), Majboor (1974) and Reshma Aur Shera (1971), sent a hand-written letter to Bachchan on his 75th birthday last year. In the letter, she remembered the shy and serious “chotu” from the sets of Reshma Aur Shera who achieved the stature of star of the millennium and called the transformation ‘God’s miracle’.

Blessing Amitabh on his 75th birthday, Sulochana wrote in her letter, “Today, you complete 75 years. In Marathi, we call this the ‘Amritmahotsav’. You know the meaning of amrit (elixir). I pray to God that you are blessed with elixir in your future life, may you live a healthy and long life.”

“I still remember the serious, shy chotu from Reshma Aur Shera. Today, when I see the same chotu transformed into the huge and strong mountain - Amitabh Bachchan, I believe in God’s miracle. I wish you always remain successful. I am delighted to know that you are celebrating your birthday with your family. My love for all your family members,” she signed off.

Sharing the letter on his Facebook page, Amitabh wrote, “Sulochana ji .. who has played my Mother in innumerable films .. my greetings to her on her birthday were done some time back ; but HER greetings to me on My 75th birthday were exceptional .. her words are the greatest blessing !!! I know a great amount of time has passed, and perhaps it may not be ethical to do this, but I simply could not resist and just had to share this with my well wishers.”

Earlier this month, Big B shared a letter from his Shakti co-star Dilip Kumar. The letter, addressed to Bachchan was written a few years ago and praised Amitabh’s acting prowess. “In recent times, I can remember Black and, if I remember right, Saira and I were at a loss for words at the premiere night, after the curtain came down, to express our myriad feelings of admiration for your outstanding performance. It is a pity the film missed the Oscar nomination. If any Indian actor, in my personal opinion, deserves the world’s most coveted award, it is you,” Dilip Kumar had said in the letter.
