Halal The Film: A movie on triple talaq. Watch the first teaser

The first teaser of Halal The Film - a movie based on the Muslim marriage law and triple talaq - does not reveal much about the movie but the sombriety and seriousness embedded in the video promises a good film.

The first teaser of Halal The Film - a movie based on the controversial triple talaq law was released Sunday afternoon.

Directed by National Award Winner Shivaji Lotan Patil, the movie features Chinmay Deepak Mandlekar, Priyadarshan Jadhav, Pritam Kagne, Vijay Chavan, Vimal Mhatre, Chaya Kadam, Amol Kagne and Sanjay Sugaokar.

The one-minute-long video shows two Muslim couples - one couple has a public Triple Talaq, while the other couple conducts the practice within the confines of a house. Muslim men can legally divorce their wives by pronouncing the word ‘talaq’ (the Arabic word for divorce) three times.

Halal The Film premiered at the Pune International Film Festival 2016 and was also screened at 2016 Aurangabad International Film Festival 2016. It also won six awards at the 53rd Maharashtra State Film Awards.
