For the song titled, Samne hai savera, from his upcoming film, Bullett Raja, actor Saif Ali Khan recently shot in Kolkata. Although the city is his mother Sharmila Tagore’s hometown, the actor says his connect with the West Bengal capital is a much deeper and personal one.

“It’s not just because of my mum that I’m attached to Kolkata. I’ve shot Parineeta (2005) there and I’m quite familiar with the city. It’s one of the greatest in our country. And it has a nice vibe, but fortunately, or unfortunately, nothing has the energy of Mumbai,” says Saif.

However, he does regret not having spent enough time there as a youngster and, as a result, not having explored his Bengali roots. “I have no childhood memories of Kolkata. I remember, every time I did something silly as a kid, my father used to tell me that I have Bengali blood. We didn’t grow up in Kolkata… that’s sad and I apologise for that. But I’m very proud of my Bengali heritage,” he says.
