Actor Sayyeshaa, grand niece of veterans Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu is all set for her debut release today. Though the 19-year-old has said in several interviews that she doesn’t want to be referred to as a star kid, she admits that it’s tough to isolate from the tag. “Honestly, I no longer feel bad when people call me a star kid. It’s a blessing to have been born in a family where your elders have earned so much of respect and love from millions of people. But I still want to make my own identity,” says the actor.
“It’s probably difficult for me to shy away from it (star kid tag) right away. Maybe with time when people see my original work, they’ll relate to just me and not link me with my family,” she adds.
So did her grandparents ever share any nuggets of wisdom with Sayyeshaa? ”They would share their experiences at times, but we weren’t really discussing movies all the time. Our family generally talks about travelling, shopping, food and other subjects rather than just films. Even where I was concerned, they didn’t talk about me coming into movies much. It was much later when I told them that I am truly inclined towards films,” she reveals.
In fact, Sayyeshaa was interested in acting since childhood, but says that it had nothing to do with her family’s background. “Surprisingly, I’ve had a very non-film upbringing. I come from a very simple household where we don’t get a filmy magazine at our place even today. I was actually academically-inclined while growing up. I love to dance, so my mom had put me into a lot of forms of dancing from the age of nine. I trained a lot, and that’s when I knew what I wanted to do,” recalls the actor.
