Iss baar, Ramlila poori filmy hai!
While Bollywood presence in Ramlilas is no new phenomenon, this year, the one organised by Old Delhi’s Luv Kush Ramleela Committee will see more than 30 actors — including industry veterans — play important roles in the dramatic folk re-enactment of the life of Lord Rama. While a few have already been roped in, many more are being finalised for the Ramlila that will take place in the first week of October. This year’s list boasts of names such as Puneet Issar, Asrani and Ashmit Patel.
Delhi, get ready for a starry Ramlila this October. More than 30 Bollywood actors will be a part of this year’s dramatic folk re-enactment of the life of Lord Rama by Luv Kush Ramleela Committee. An annual feature in Old Delhi, this Ramlila will see veteran actors Puneet Issar and Raza Murad play Ravana and Raja Janaka, respectively. While actor Ritu Shivpuri will be seen as queen Kaushalya, Bhojpuri star Ravi Kishan will play boatman Kevat, and actor Ashmit Patel will essay Bharat. Also, a part of this Ramlila will be veteran actor Asrani and singer Shankar Sahney. The committee plans to rope in many more names from Bollywood.

Not just the cast, the crew of this Ramlila, too, will include professionals from the film industry. “Every year, we try to make our Ramlila as elaborate as possible. This year, we are in talks with four action directors from Bollywood to direct sequences in the Ramlila. Even music directors from the film industry will be roped in to compose the music. Apart from this, actor Gurleen Chopra, who has worked in Tamil, Telugu and Marathi cinema, among others, will be playing the role of Sita,” says Ashok Aggarwal, president, Luv Kush Ramleela Committee.
