Post the success of Uri: The Surgical Strike, there has been a surge of films based on patriotism, including Janhvi Kapoor’s Kargil Girl and Sidharth Malhotra’s upcoming biopic on Captain Vikram Batra. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, while script and title (Kargil’s Sher Shah) of Vikram Batra’s biopic have been approved by Ministry of Defence, Janhvi’s film is yet to get a go-head.

Janhvi’s film, which has not got the necessary clearances, has nonetheless begun shooting. The film is based on Gunjan Saxena, one of India’s first female helicopter pilots who played an important role during the Kargil War. In February, the team was in Lucknow for the shoot. The film stars Janhvi in the lead role while Angad Bedi is playing her brother. Pankaj Tirpathi will essay the role of her father.

Speaking about Janhvi, Pankaj told IANS: “I liked the character very much. I am having a lot of fun while shooting for the film. Janhvi is a very sincere actress. She respects me a lot and I too respect her for the sincerity and commitment towards her work.”

The biopic is being helmed by Sharan Sharma. “Sharan is a very talented director and is well versed with his craft. It’s an opportunity to work under Dharma Productions,” he added.

Shabbir Boxwala, the co-producer of the Vikram Batra biopic, said that they will begin shooting for the film in May. He was quoted in the report as saying: “We have submitted all requisite paperwork. The title and script have been cleared.” Captain Vikram Batra died during the 1999’s Kargil War.
