With a film like Love Aaj Kal (2009) as her launch pad, Brazilian model

Giselli Monteiro

couldn’t have asked for a better break in Bollywood.

From there, she went on to star in Shah Rukh Khan’s production, Always Kabhi Kabhi (2011), besides doing a few modelling assignments. But, as it turns out, her priorities have been different from those of most aspiring actors. She has quit Bollywood to study architecture at the University of Vila Velha, in Espirito Santo (Brazil).

Here, over a quick chat from Brazil, she talks to us about her experience and her decision to quit acting.

We’ve heard you have moved back to Brazil. Is this true?

Yes, I am studying architecture in Brazil. It has been a long drawn passion and I decided it’s time to pursue it.

Love Aaj Kal happened within the first month of me coming to India to [work as a] model. The film did well, for which I am grateful. Always Kabhi Kabhi didn’t turn out as we expected [it to], but there were other requests thereafter. I was also modelling and doing endorsements side-by-side. But to be honest, I never intended to be in films.

Was your decision to move back taken abruptly?

I chose to go back to Brazil because studying was always on my list of priorities. I have been modelling since I was 16 and after all that time and four memorable years in India, I decided to make the move back to pursue architecture.

Will you ever come back to Bollywood or have you left the film industry permanently?

I have fond memories of my time in India and I will be visiting later this year, but I do not see myself pursuing films [any longer].
