Race 2, directed by Abbas-Mastan opened to packed theatres on Friday. The movie has collected Rs 15.12 crore on its opening day.



"We are very happy with the opening of Race 2. To ensure we get maximum numbers, the film was released in 3,200 screens - third largest till date. We are expecting a great weekend," Gaurav Verma, director - India Theatrical Distribution, Studios, Disney UTV, said in a statement.



The movie, a sequel to 2008 film Race, features an ensemble cast of John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Jacqueline Fernandez.



While Saif and Anil reprised their role, the others are new additions to the franchise.

Rating: ** Race 2 is essentially a big-budget cartoon in which coolness is all. The director duo Abbas-Mustan (this is how they credit themselves in the titles) have no pretensions about what they are making - full-on masala with a dash of revenge, a slice of heist and characters who are either strutting their chiselled bodies in slow motion or betraying each other.

I hope that it’s a hat-trick this time. I think we still look like a fresh pair. This time, our chemistry will come out differently because even though our characters talk and like each other, they have motives behind it," she says. Deepika admits that she can’t reveal much about Race 2’s storyline, but she’s quick to deny that the movie isn’t being promoted as heavily as the 2008 original.
