Ridhima Sud, who's got a double-major in political science and economics from the New York University (NYU), USA, landed a plum job at the Wall Street. But she soon changed her mind with Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do. "When you are passionate about something, you can rationalise and see the positive in everything. I have a solid education that helped me gain self-confidence, and shaped me into an independent thinker," she says.
She belongs to an affluent family in Delhi, who were caught unawares when their highly educated daughter, Ridhima Sud, broke the news that she wanted to be an actor when she bagged a role in
.
"It did [come as a shock to them], but I’m blessed to have parents who believed in me and showed support. They always downplayed their apprehensions. They know what struggle can mean, because they come from humble beginnings and didn’t want to see me go through that. But it’s important to deal with things on your own," says the newcomer, who made her debut with
recent release.
But with no background in films, wasn’t she afraid to venture into unknown territory? "In hindsight, it feels courageous, but at that moment, it was just me chasing my passion. The hardest part was to figure it out on my own, and to make sense of the dynamics of the industry. I still don’t have them all figured out. I’m only one movie old, and have so much more to look forward to. But on some level, I feel validated," says Ridhima, who reveals that that it was NYU that "fed her acting desire."

Even though Ridhima made her debut in a multi-starrer, she says she wasn’t apprehensive before taking up the project. "I would have never got this visibility, if it weren’t for them (the other actors in the film). It’s not often that one gets the opportunity to test their skills amongst the best in the business," says the actor.
She also calls this film her "dream debut", as she got to work with Zoya, whose work she admires. "She was always on top of my list of directors to work with, and it’s literally a dream debut. She is very intuitive, and maybe, it’s a female director thing, but sometimes she’ll know why you’re doing something even when you don’t know it yourself. She’s quick to identify intention, and guides the actor accordingly," says Ridhima.
As far as her future projects are concerned, the actor says, "I am just riding the wave, and going with the flow. I believe that when you really want something, the universe conspires to help you get it."
