Saara Zamaana to Raat Baaki: Why Bollywood is hell bent on destroying good songs?

Here we have compiled a list of five remixed songs that are not even a patch on the originals.

It seems Bollywood is facing a major talent void in the music department. Most of the composers are finding it easy to remix an old hit without caring about its original essence.

Ittefaq will hit the screens on November 3, 2017.

Even a music stalwart like Lata Mangeshkar is annoyed with such a trend. In a conversation with DNA, she said, “In principle, I’ve always been opposed to remixes and cover versions of classics. They shouldn’t be touched. So many of Pancham’s, Madan Mohan’s and Laxmikant-Pyarelal’s songs have been tampered with; beats and lyrics are modified. It’s like rooms being added or removed from the Taj Mahal.”

Lata Mangeshkar makes sense because remixes have been killing the magic of the old melodies.

Here we have compiled a list of five such songs that are not even a patch on the originals.

Raat Baaki (Ittefaq): Sidharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Sinha’s upcoming release is a retread of the classical Bollywood murder mystery of the same name that originally starred Rajesh Khanna and Nanda. However, they have used Bappi Lahiri’s memorable tune Raat Baaki (Namak Halal) as a promotional song as the film doesn’t have any songs. The latest version lacks soul, to say the least.

Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast (Machine): Director Abbas-Mustan used the remix of one of the most iconic 90s songs to launch his son in Mustafa. They even made Udit Narayan sing a few lines for the new song, but the result was really average.

Laila Main Laila (Raees): Sunny Leone is probably the most successful item girl in the history of Bollywood. She was presented as one of the highlights of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees, and the makers chose the famous Zeenat Aman song for her entry in the film. Result was underwhelming.

Saara Zamana (Kaabil): This Hrithik Roshan-starrer banked on Urvashi Rautela to add some oomph to the film which had its heroine Yami Gautam in a very de-glamourised avatar. She danced and tried her best to raise the temperature, but didn’t succeed.

Special Mention

Tamma Tamma (Badrinath Ki Dulhania): The only remix which got close to the magic of the original was the new Tamma Tamma. Music arranger Tanishk Bagchi retained all the original voices and added a bit of EDM to it. The result wasn’t bad.

Thanks Bollywood for dishing out tasteless remixes in the name of creativity.
