Sharad Kelkar on Baahubali: I can proudly tell my daughter that I was part of a 500 crore film

Actor Sharad Kelkar admits that after dubbing for Prabhas’ character in Baahubali, Bollywood filmmakers know him better.

For actor Sharad Kelkar, 2017 was quite fulfilling. Whether it was playing the lead antagonist in Sanjay Dutt-starrer Bhoomi or an extended cameo in Baadshaho, the actor received a lot of praise. However, he says that dubbing for Prabhas’ character in Baahubali: The Conclusion has been the most enriching experience.

Though Sharad had lent his voice to Baahubali’s character in the first instalment of the film, too, he says that it’s only after the second instalment that he got his due recognition. “It’s nothing short of an achievement,” says Sharad, adding, “[It feels great] to be a part of a film that has earned 500 crore. [It feels as if] you are now in history books or [your name has been written] in the history of Indian cinema.”

The actor, who has a two-year-old daughter with wife, actor Keerti Gaekwad Kelkar, says that he can proudly tell his daughter about this movie. “I can probably say this to my daughter that your dad has somewhat been part of a 500 crore film.”

Sharad has dubbed in Hindi for a number of Hollywood films such as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Guardians of the Galaxy and Mad Max: Fury Road, among others. The actor who also has dubbed for Hollywood actor Vin Diesel’s character in XXX: Return of Xander Cage (2017), says, “A lot of Bollywood filmmakers, who didn’t know me, now recognise me because my voice has been talked about so much. And it has helped me a lot.”

Sharad further recalls that actor Riteish Deshmukh was the first person who messaged him to congratulate after the film released. Not just the fraternity, the actor further admits that ever since Baahubali became a super hit, his fan base has increased tremendously. “Wherever I go, people are like ‘please say one dialogue from Baahubali’.”
