Bringing cinema and literature on one platform, the Great Indian Film and Literature Festival is back in its third edition at Cyber Hub, Gurgaon. Inaugurated by Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee Adoor Gopalakrishnan, the festival will see luminaries such as Ruskin Bond, Prakash Jha, Anurag Batra and Sumita Mishra, the festival is scheduled till December 4.
Director Subhash Ghai, on his second visit to the festival, says,“Its a good social cause. And its my duty to give back my knowledge and experience to the generation.Its a wonderful platform to watch world movies and meet various experts, academics and celebrities.”
The festival co-founded by Kumar Amit Sinha and Karan Kukreja is back with new elements such as a play and a musical concert, this year. “We are trying to add new dimensions for people to explore film and literature in a better way.GIFLIF after its Gurgaon chapter will be travelling to all corners of India with the aim to bridge cultural gaps and connect India with the essence of film and literature,”says Sinha.
While the panel discussion on scripting the success will see directors Subhash Ghai, Prakash Jha and Sudhir Mishra in conversation on the art of writing scripts, Kavi Samelan with Piyush Mishra, Surendra Sharma and Dr Sita Sagar is sure to bring out the poet in you. For director Sudhir Mishra, film festivals help to initiate a dialogue.“It opens out something for the young. I like interactive sessions and not where I am giving a speech. I get to have a two way interaction with the young as I am a teachers son,” he says.
Presenting an amalgamation of music and poetry is Manju ka Tila by lyricist Raj Shekhar’s that deals with emotions of nostalgia, modern day crisis, migration and the eternal conflict between the old and the new. Also expect to watch short film (animation): Schirkoa, feature film Joker, Let some clouds float in, among other interesting performances and discussions. Actor and lyricist Piyush Mishra, who will also grace the occasion for the second time, says, “The scale has increased from last year. Festivals help in increasing awareness among people for films, theatre and poetry. The basic purpose of a festival is entertainment whether it’s through singing or discussions.”

{{/usCountry}}Giving the festival a musical touch would be a performance by Mishra’s band Ballimaaraan. The band named after Ghalib ki haveli will shell out a musical performance that will be led by Mishra. Expect to hear some popular numbers apart from his favourite compositions as part of the closing act. “I will be reciting poetry as part of the Kavi Samelan. And apart from this, my band will close the festival this time. We have an orchestra. The performance will be an amalgamation of poetry and songs.”
