Most producers want their films to be the only movies to be released on a Friday, but with 52 weeks in a year and over a hundred films being released each year, a clash is bound to happen. To avoid this, film-makers slot their movies months in advance according to the dates they prefer. However, while the makers of Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh (K2DRS) had zeroed in on November 25, they have now decided to release the movie on December 2 to avoid clashing with Dear Zindagi, starring Alia Bhatt directed by Gauri Shinde.

A source says, “The co-producer of K2DRS Jayantilal Gada has shared a close association with Mahesh Bhatt (Alia’s father) for years, and they had talked about the release dates. They wanted to avoid the clash, and hence the decision taken.” K2DRS is the second installment of the 2012 thriller, Kahaani. It’s co-produced and directed by Sujoy Ghosh, who has reunited with National Award-winning actor, Vidya Balan. The suspense thriller also stars Arjun Rampal.

Jayantilal says, “Bhatt sahab has been associated with us for our leading TV shows, but more importantly, he and Alia are like family to us. We don’t compete with family, so I decided to release K2DRS on December 2.”

Mahesh adds, “I have known Jyantilal Gada for several years now, and we are like family. Both the films are unique films and deserve a solo release. It will also help both films in the long run.”
