Watch Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter confess they’re severely uneducated and didn’t go to college
Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter will make their Bollywood debuts with this week’s Dhadak, but this also means that they had to sacrifice their education for a shot at movie stardom. Listen to them talk about it.Updated: Jul 18, 2018, 13:25 IST
Dhadak stars Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter opened up about being ‘severely uneducated’ in a new interview. Speaking to entertainment journalist Rajeev Masand, the two said that they’d only completed high school and not gone on to get a graduate degree.
The interview was taking place in a classroom set-up and Janhvi expressed nervousness at returning to a school environment, because she felt like she ‘would have to give an exam’. “We’ve never been in this position, facing the class,” joked Ishaan. Both Ishaan and Janhvi are making their Bollywood debut with Shashank Khaitan’s Dhadak; Ishaan was earlier seen in Beyond the Clouds directed by Iranian auteur Majid Majidi.
Masand then asked them the ‘inevitable’ question: Had they completed their education before venturing into the movie business? “I studied till Class 12,” said Janhvi, “I actually studied in an IB school. So I never went to college. I’m severely uneducated.” The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a two-year educational programme primarily aimed at 16 to 18 year olds.
“Neither did I,” Ishaan chimed in. “I did my A-levels (UK educational degrees) and then I chose to break free of traditional academics and study what I wanted to.” The duo then performed a dance to the popular number from their film, Zingaat.
Both Janhvi and Ishaan belong to film backgrounds. Janhvi is the daughter of producer Boney Kapoor and the late screen icon, Sridevi, and Ishaan is Shahid Kapoor’s half brother.
Several Bollywood star kids are expected to join the film business just like their parents, but one of the most prominent ones, Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana, will have to complete her education before she takes the big step. SRK has been very clear about having just one mandate for all his children: Complete your education first.
