The setup is fully air-tight, allowing Tesla to control the air quality inside the enclosure. A BMW SUV is parked alongside the Model Y inside the same enclosure for comparison.

To recreate hazardous air conditions, the Tesla team fills the enclosure with dense red smoke, mimicking severe pollution. Within moments, the enclosure is completely saturated with smoke, significantly reducing visibility.

What happens when bioweapon defence mode is switched on

The Model Y is equipped with Tesla’s Bioweapon Defence Mode, which is designed to filter incoming air before it enters the cabin. When the feature is activated, the video shows that while red smoke continues to fill the enclosure, it does not enter the Model Y’s cabin. In contrast, smoke is seen entering the cabin of the BMW SUV parked next to it.

Bioweapon Defence Mode combines a HEPA filter with activated carbon filtration. Together, these systems are designed to reduce exposure to exhaust fumes, smoke, allergens, bacteria, viruses, pollen, mold spores, and other airborne pollutants. The system also creates positive pressure inside the cabin, which helps prevent unfiltered outside air from seeping in.

How can you activate this feature?

The feature can be activated directly from the vehicle’s climate control screen by selecting the biohazard icon. It can also be turned on remotely through the Tesla mobile app by opening the Climate section and accessing the Bioweapon Defence Mode option.
