South Korean automakers, Hyundai and Kia, witnessed substantial growth in electric passenger vehicle sales in CY’25. Both the brands witnessed growth of more than 500 per cent, with the former witnessing a growth of 635.8 per cent while the latter witnessed a growth of 557.83 per cent.
Hyundai Electric Passenger Vehicle Sales 2025
Hyundai sold approximately 6,726 electric passenger vehicles in India in 2025, compared to 914 electric passenger vehicles sold in 2024. This came as a result of the launch of the electric iteration of its best-selling SUV, the Creta. In addition to that, the premium electric SUV from the stables of Hyundai, the Ioniq 5, was offered with heavy discounts, further contributing to the substantial sales growth.

Additionally, Kia sold approximately 2,730 electric passenger vehicles in India in 2025, compared to 415 electric passenger vehicles sold in 2024. This substantial growth can be attributed to the launch of Kia’s first budget electric MPV, the Carens Clavis EV.
Not only that, but Kia also launched the updated EV6 in the premium segment. Apart from that, Kia has a three-row electric SUV, the EV9, in the luxury segment, adding to its electric passenger vehicle portfolio.

{{/usCountry}}According to media reports, Hyundai is expected to launch three more locally made electric vehicles in India. One of the electric vehicles from the South Korean automaker can be the Inster EV, which is currently being sold overseas. The Inster EV can be brought in as an alternative in the micro SUV segment and as a rival to the Tata Punch EV.
The overseas version of the Inster EV boasts two different battery pack sizes: a 42 kWh and a 49 kWh, with a claimed range of approximately 350 km. However, the other two electric vehicles, which are expected to come to India, continue to be under wraps by the company.
Furthermore, the luxury arm of Hyundai, Genesis, is expected to officially enter the Indian market by 2027. While the brand still remains tight-lipped on its portfolio for the Indian market, it boasts two electric vehicles in its overseas portfolio.
