The district consumer disputes redressal forum has fined a Sector-48 resident, a retired Punjab National Bank employee, for filing a false affidavit before the forum, while claiming that the bank failed to credit his pension dues from December 2012 to November 2013.
The complainant, Gurdial Singh Sabharwal, has been ordered to pay `10,000 to the bank, after his complaint of deficient services against the bank was not found to be maintainable by the forum.
On January 27, the consumer forum, presided over by PL Ahuja, held, “The complainant is an ex-employee of Punjab National Bank and his mobile number is also registered for SMS alerts. It is not conceivable that the complainant was not aware of the entry of deposit of arrears of pensionary benefits from December 2012 to November 2013 in his passbook, as claimed in the affidavit. There is cogent and positive evidence to the effect that the complainant filed a false affidavit before this forum.”
THE CASE SPECIFICS
Gurdial Singh Sabharwal, a resident of Sector 48, Chandigarh, filed a complaint against the Punjab National Bank. He claimed that in spite of furnishing his life certificate with the bank in November 2012, his pension was not credited to his account from December 2012 to November 2013.
Denying any deficiency, the bank claimed that the complainant did not submit the life certificate, due for submission in November 2012. This led to the stoppage of credit of his pension, as per rules. The bank added that the complainant was an ex-employee of PNB and the service relating to pension is being rendered by the bank to him free of charge. Therefore, the complaint was not maintainable, the bank claimed.
