A 17-year-old boy was detained for allegedly raping and killing a 45-year-old woman in Chitradurga district near Bengaluru on Sunday, police said on Monday.
Hiriyur Rural police inspector Manjunath AH said that the woman reportedly called her son on Sunday evening and alleged that the minor had raped her at her house. Upon arriving there, he found her in seriously injured. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.
“The woman resisted the sexual assault, following which the minor physically overpowered and raped her. He later attacked her with a machete, causing fatal injuries,” said the inspector.

{{/usCountry}}He said preliminary enquiries indicated that the minor found out that the victim had summoned her son and allegedly returned to her house with his father and brothers. He allegedly attacked her before fleeing.
Police have registered a case under relevant BNS sections against five people, including the minor and his relatives, and have begun a probe. Investigators suspect that the weapon used in the attack was destroyed.
