The NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) has re-examined the Bengaluru – Mysuru expressway on Tuesday after a stretch of it was waterlogged due to moderate spell of rains. The officials said that the issues are rectified, and pipes are fixed for easy flow of rainwater.
The NHAI officials also directed the project director and contractor to strictly maintain the chain link fencing to ensure the safety of commuters. Earlier, days after the inauguration of this expressway, few vehicles were spotted plying in the wrong direction. In a tweet, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said, “NHAI RO Bengaluru inspected the site on Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway which witnessed waterlogging. He re-examined its cause and executed mitigation measures for immediate relief and to prevent any possible recurrence. The issue of adjoining villagers was critically examined to address the access from service road to the villages. He also checked the depth of the constructed drain.”

Just a few days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the expressway on March 12, the road near Ramanagara was inundated due to the rains causing discomfort to the commuters. The government earlier said that the villagers blocked drain with soil and that caused the waterlogging. A statement from the ministry then said, “Villagers of Madapura & others have tried to shortcut access to enter their agriculture lands & village at Km.42+640 by blocking the drain with soil for a width of 3m to make their own pathway from service road resulting in inundation of road due to blockage of drainage path. The pathway constructed by the Villagers for their access was removed on March 18 early morning itself.”
