Ludhiana : Parents of Mohit Chauhan, 23, one of the victims of the road mishap in southern Ontario, Canada, on Saturday night, are unaware about the death of their only son. They have been told that Mohit is injured and admitted to a hospital there.
According to close relatives, it will take another seven days to bring the body back to Ludhiana.
Mohit, a resident of Gujjar Colony at Rahon Road in Ludhiana, went to Canada on a study visa on January 1, 2021. His father Bhajan Lal is into transport business and had taken a loan to send his son abroad. Mohit was the elder of two siblings.
Mohit’s mother Kamlesh is still in a shock after she heard about the mishap. She kept on insisting her husband and relatives to make her talk to Mohit over phone. “We made her talk to Mohit’s friends in Toronto, but we have requested them not to reveal the news of Mohit’s death to his parents till the body reaches home. The parents have been told that Mohit has undergone a surgery and doctors are not allowing him to take calls,” said Sanjiv Kumar, a relative.
After the mishap, the Canadian police officers made a call to Mohit’s maternal grandfather, but he was not able to understand the language. “When we called back on the number, a police officer narrated the whole incident,” said another relative.

Mohit’s friends are generating funds through crowdfunding in Canada to send the bodies of all five victims back home. Mohit, along with his friends Harpreet Singh, Jaspinder Singh, Karanpal Singh and Pawan Kumar, was travelling in a van when a tractor-trailer hit it, leaving them dead and two others injured.
