Construction for Haryana’s 1st TB, heart & chest disease hospital to begin soon
The hospital will include general chest OPDs, lung cancer clinic, antiretroviral therapy clinic, allergy and immunotherapy clinic, tobacco cessation clinic, pre-anesthesia check-up clinic, sleep clinic, ENT clinic, audiometry clinic, nebulisation room for OPD patients, HIV Counseling centre, dietician’s clinic, mental health and patient education clinic
The construction for the ₹56 crore 100-bed hospital for the treatment of TB, chest and heart-related diseases in Ambala City, a first-of-its-kind state facility in North India, will begin soon.
Officials said that the project to construct Deendayal Upadhyaya State Institute of Tuberculosis and Cardiopulmonary disease was approved by the state government last year. The foundation laying ceremony of the hospital will be held on Wednesday.
They said that it will be the first-of-its-kind state facility in North India except the National Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases in Delhi.
The hospital will include general chest OPDs, lung cancer clinic, antiretroviral therapy clinic, allergy and immunotherapy clinic, tobacco cessation clinic, pre-anesthesia check-up clinic, sleep clinic, ENT clinic, audiometry clinic, nebulisation room for OPD patients, HIV Counseling centre, dietician’s clinic, mental health and patient education clinic.
“A virological research and diagnostic lab with accreditation from ICMR, Delhi here shall be a state-of-the-art facility where apart from routine investigations, samples for first line drugs and second line drugs shall be processed within 72 hours. Currently, Haryana has one intermediate reference laboratory in Karnal with culture and other facilities that remain overburdened with a delay of reports more than 6 weeks,” Dr Sukhpreet Singh, ASMO at the civil surgeon’s office, said.
The hospital will also have two ICUs, one for TB and another for respiratory diseases (non-TB), 10 beds each, as, the ASMO said.
“..no ICU is offered to TB patients in private and usually avoided at public hospitals and are often turned back home,” the official said.
Dr Kuldeep Singh, director health services, National Health Mission, Haryana and civil surgeon, Ambala, said, “A tender worth ₹56 crore was allotted last month, out of which funds of ₹24 crore were released for initial tasks. The construction will start soon after the foundation stone with a duration of project completion of 24 months.”
Health minister Anil Vij said that not only Ambala and Haryana, patients from nearby states will also be able to get better and modern facilities in this hospital.
According to the health department officials, the 25-meters building will come up on two acres of land after demolishing the old TB hospital that has not been upgraded since 1956.
Repairs and renovation work was undertaken at the old site in 2014, but no new structural changes have been made at the hospital since then, except a ward that was sanctioned under the MPLAD scheme. However, it was never completed due to paucity of funds, it has been learnt.
The facility was promised by Vij to the residents of Ambala City at a public meeting after his win in the 2019 assembly elections.
