Died in Russian-Ukrain war: Body of 30-year-old Sonepat man brought back

The mortal remains of a 30-year-old man from Sonepat, who lost his life in the Russian-Ukraine war, reached his native village Kurar Ibrahimpur in Sonepat on Thursday.

In October last year, the mortal remains of 28-year-old Sonu Sheoran, who was reportedly forced into the Russian army and killed in a Ukrainian drone attack, had reached his native Madanheri village in Hisar. (HT Photo for representation)

According to his family, they lost contact with Ankit Kumar nearly five months ago. Ankit went to Russia on a study-visa on March 13 last year and died while fighting in the war against Ukraine, they said.

Ankit’s family members said he was inducted into the Russian Army on August 26 last year and they spoke to him last time on October 12. His maternal uncle Sanjay Kumar said that they got information from the Russian Embassy two days ago that Ankit was killed in a drone attack in the war against Ukraine.

“Ankit had been working at a hostel and in August last year, he was forced by an Indian agent to join the Russian Army. He was given a 15-days training and later he was sent to the frontline,” Sanjay added.

Ankit was the sole-breadwinner of the family and his both sisters are married. The family owns half-acre of land and he was sent abroad to improve the financial condition of the family.

In October last year, the mortal remains of 28-year-old Sonu Sheoran, who was reportedly forced into the Russian army and killed in a Ukrainian drone attack, had reached his native Madanheri village in Hisar — nearly seven weeks after his death.

Sonu travelled to Russia in May 2023 on a study visa to learn the Russian language. However, his relatives said he was later pushed into the battlefield by Russian authorities. He was killed in a Ukrainian drone attack on September 6, according to information conveyed by Russian officials.
