More than 4.16 lakh voter entries—15.5% of the electorate on the previous roll—have been classified as absent, shifted, deceased, duplicate or otherwise untraceable during the ongoing revision of electoral rolls in Ludhiana, putting the spotlight on the major exercise to clean up the district’s voter database.
The district administration on Thursday published the draft electoral roll, with October 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. District election officer-cum-deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain said the draft roll now contains 22,67,911 voters, including 11,96,869 men, 10,70,962 women, 80 transgender voters and 57 NRI voters.
The scale of the exercise becomes evident from the number of voters who could not be confirmed. According to the administration, 26,83,999 electors were on the electoral roll as of June 9. Booth-level officers (BLOs) visited their residences, distributed enumeration forms and made at least three follow-up visits to collect the forms. Where voters could not be found, intimation slips were pasted on their houses.
By August 3, forms had been received from 22,67,911 voters (84.5%). The remaining 4,16,088 entries (15.5%) were categorised as absent, shifted, deceased, duplicate or otherwise untraceable.
The administration has now uploaded the draft roll on its website and set up help desks at electoral registration offices. Voters have been urged to verify their details and file claims or objections wherever required.

{{/usCountry}}Following rationalisation, Ludhiana has 3,031 polling stations, including 1,528 urban and 1,503 rural stations. Special camps will be held at designated polling stations on August 16 from 10 am to 1 pm. Jain said voters whose entries have been marked as ‘unmapped’ or flagged for anomalies will be issued notices and asked to provide the required documents for verification.
The exercise is aimed at ensuring that the final electoral roll contains only genuine and correctly mapped voter entries ahead of the 2026 electoral cycle.
