The DGP held a virtual meeting with range IGs, DIGs, SSPs, DSPs and SHOs. He also asked the officers to identify the drug hotspots at every police station and lay special focus on pharmaceutical drugs to root out the menace from the state. He warned that the concerned SHOs will be held responsible in case of leniency in drugs related cases.

Emphasising on the need to bring professionalism into policing, the DGP asked field officers to register even minor Indian Penal Code (IPC) cases, take preventive actions, open history sheets, solve cases using technical inputs and keep track of bailed-out criminals.

Punjab Police will revive the Village Defence Committees (VDCs) across the state, especially in border districts, the DGP announced.

The VDCs will be comprised of trusted and prominent persons of the village including retired police or army personnel, principals government officers/officials, etc.
