Lieutenant General Harjeet Singh Sahi on Tuesday assumed charge as the Chief of Staff at Western Command Headquarters, Chandimandir Military Station. He succeeds Lieutenant General Puneet Ahuja, who has moved to Army Headquarters to take over as Director General, Strategic Planning.

Before taking over the new assignment, Lt Gen Sahi served as the Commandant of the Army War College, Mhow. He also holds the prestigious appointment of Colonel of The Rajput Regiment. Soon after assuming office, he laid a wreath at the Veer Smriti War Memorial and paid homage to soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation. Senior army officers and personnel gave him a warm welcome.
An alumnus of Punjab Public School, Nabha, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Lt Gen Sahi was commissioned into the 23rd Battalion of The Rajput Regiment in December 1988.
During his military career spanning over three decades, Lt Gen Sahi has served in a variety of command and staff appointments across the northern, western and eastern theatres. He also possesses vast operational experience in challenging terrains, including the Siachen Glacier.
