Ludhiana: Neurosurgeon booked for ‘manhandling’ ambulance driver

A city-based neurosurgeon has been booked for allegedly manhandling an ambulance driver and removing the vehicle’s keys following a glancing collision between the ambulance and his Audi Q7 near a private hospital.
The accused has been identified as Dr Harman Sobti. The Division Number 8 police have registered the case on the complaint of ambulance driver Arshdeep Singh of Muktsar.
According to the complaint, Arshdeep was driving the ambulance with helper Jagdeep Singh and taking a patient home when the Audi allegedly being driven by Dr Sobti suddenly stopped near a private hospital. Arshdeep said he applied the brakes to avoid hitting the car, but the ambulance nevertheless brushed against the car.
The complainant said the contact did not cause any damage to the luxury car and alleged that Dr Sobti got out of the vehicle, confronted and manhandled him and removed the ambulance keys.
Arshdeep further alleged that switching off the engine also stopped the ambulance’s air-conditioning, causing difficulty for the patient inside due to the heat.
The police have booked Dr Sobti under Sections 125 (rash or negligent acts endangering human life or personal safety), 126 (wrongful restraint), 281 (rash or negligent driving), 285 (causing danger, obstruction or injury to people in a public street or road), 304 (snatching) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, besides Section 194 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
ASI Balwinder Singh, who is investigating the case, said appropriate action would be taken after the investigation.
Dr Sobti denied the allegations and termed the FIR “baseless”. He alleged that a private hospital located near his hospital was behind the complaint. “The incident did happen, but they exaggerated it and filed a false complaint against me. I will legally proceed against it,” he said.
