Special Task Force (STF) team arrested four accused from a checkpoint established near Golden City, Mahmudpur, Ludhiana following a tip-off

A Special Task Force (STF) team arrested four accused for allegedly peddling drugs, recovering 2.5kg heroin from their possession on Saturday night.

The arrested accused, identified as Deepak Kumar Deepu, 30, of Janta Colony, Lovepreet Singh, 25, of Preet Nagar of Shimlapuri, Jagjeet Singh, 40, and Sahil Mehra, 21, of Janta Nagar of Gill village, were arrested following a tip-off.

Inspector Harbans Singh, in-charge Ludhiana STF, said the they were arrested from a checkpoint established near Golden City, Mahmudpur while in a Chevrolet Cruze car. Upon checking, the STF recovered the heroin from their car.

Police said the accused used to procure the contraband from New Delhi and would sell it in Ludhiana and surrounding areas.

The inspector added that the STF had, in 2021, arrested Sahil Mehra, one of the accused, with 200 gm heroin, while Deepak, another accused was also booked in that case. Mehra was later bailed out.

The inspector added that the two had allegedly been peddling drugs for the last five years and had multiple cases registered against them. A case under sections 21 and 29 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been lodged against the accused.

Crime Investigation Agency staff of Khanna on Saturday arrested two alleged drug peddlers, recovering 1 kg opium from their possession.

The accused, identified as Rajnish Kumar of Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh and Raju Chahuhan of Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh were living in a rented accommodation in Doraha.

Sub-inspector Santokh Singh, who is investigating the case, said the arrests were made at a checkpoint near Lalheri village. The accused who were coming from Lalheri village on foot tried to dodge the police, but were caught.

Upon checking, police recovered 1 kg of opium from their bag. A case under sections 18, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been lodged against the accused at the Khanna police station.

The police are questioning the accused to trace where they procure the opium from.
