Mohali: Migrant woman found murdered, neighbour’s role suspected

The victim has been identified as Gayatri. The murder came to the fore after her husband, Bahadur, who was at work, tried in vain to call her. As she didn’t pick up the phone, he called up his mother-in-law, who lives nearby, to check up on her. The mother-in-law told him that she was not at home so he himself returned home.

A 35-year-old migrant woman was found murdered, with her throat slit, in Ekta Vihar Colony in Phase l of Baltana area of Zirakpur on Thursday evening.

The family suspects a neighbour to be behind the murder.

The victim has been identified as Gayatri. The murder came to the fore after her husband, Bahadur, who was at work, tried in vain to call her. As she didn’t pick up the phone, he called up his mother-in-law, who lives nearby, to check up on her. The mother-in-law told him that she was not at home so he himself returned home.

He found the house locked from outside. After he broke open the lock, he found his wife lying in a pool of blood.

Police have booked a neighbour, identified as Pawan, after the victim’s husband said he suspects the former to be behind the murder.

When cops went to search the accused’s house, it was found that he along with his wife and four-month-old daughter had already left and their mobile phones were also switched off.

DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar said a murder case has been registered and search is on for Pawan.
