Ludhiana Junction lacks basic facilities for differently abled passengers, including ramps and lifts to help them move between platforms and reach trains, even as the station is undergoing redevelopment.

The station has a ramp at the entrance that allows passengers to reach Platform 1. However, there is no lift or ramp to help them reach the footbridges connecting the platforms. The only apparent alternative is a path between the tracks at the ends of the platforms, which is not a designated facility for differently abled passengers.
The problem extends to basic amenities. The only toilet designated for differently abled passengers, located on platforms 2 and 3, is poorly maintained. Its taps and other fittings are broken, making it practically unusable for passengers waiting on the platforms.
The toilet is also located near the far end of the nearly 500-metre-long platform, adding to the difficulty for passengers with mobility issues.
“One has to wait for the train or risk missing the train if one must use the toilet,” said Atul Mongia, a frequent traveller from the station.
The lack of facilities also affects differently abled passengers who want to use premium train services.
“Even if I want to travel on the Vande Bharat, I can’t as there are no facilities to reach the train. This issue is about other stations as well,” said Kaur Singh, a differently abled resident.
The railway station is currently undergoing redevelopment, and station officials said the new plan includes facilities to make it accessible to differently abled passengers.
