A 25-year-old man has been awarded 20 years jail for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl and threatening to leak her private photographs on social media.

Additional sessions judge Manish Dua also slapped a 50,000 fine on the convict. Failure to pay it will lead to additional six months of simple imprisonment.

The case dates to April 2025, when the teenager approached the police and alleged that the accused had befriended her, sexually assaulted her and later threatened to make her private photographs public on social media platforms.

Deputy commissioner of police Aditi Singh said police registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act immediately after receiving the complaint. The girl was subsequently medically examined and provided psychological counselling, while the accused was arrested.
