A 45-year-old driver in Panchkula has been arrested for allegedly stealing ₹2.2 lakh from his employer’s Toyota Fortuner after secretly getting a duplicate remote key made for the vehicle. The entire stolen amount has been recovered, police said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Rajeev, a resident of Rohtak currently living in Sector-2, Panchkula, was nabbed within 24 hours of the complaint being filed.
According to police, Rajeev’s employer, who is a Panchkula-based businessman, lodged a complaint on February 21, stating that he frequently kept large amounts of cash in his vehicle for business purposes. On February 16, around ₹3 lakh was placed in the car. The next morning, ₹1.7 lakh was found missing. On February 18, another ₹50,000 was discovered stolen, taking the total missing amount to ₹2.2 lakh. A case was subsequently registered at Sector-5 police station.
During the probe, technical evidence and circumstantial analysis raised suspicion against the driver. Police said Rajeev had secretly made a duplicate remote key of the vehicle. Using this, he would discreetly unlock the car whenever he found an opportunity and steal cash without arousing suspicion.
