Police on Sunday reopened the post within the court premises and deployed additional personnel to strengthen security, three days after gangster Vinod Panu alias Kana was shot dead in broad daylight at the Hisar district court complex.
According to the police, the post, which had been shut down a few months ago citing a shortage of staff, has now been made operational again. ASI Mahender Singh has been appointed in charge of the post, with 11 police personnel, including a woman constable, deployed for round-the-clock duty.
Security at the court complex has also been tightened, with every person entering through the main gate being screened through a metal detector.
The police post had earlier been closed due to staff shortages, and its personnel were reportedly redeployed to Haryana Agricultural University and Guru Jambheshwar University.
The decision to reopen the post followed Vinod Panu’s killing on Thursday. Vinod had been acquitted in an attempt-to-murder case and was leaving the court complex when two motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly opened fire.
According to police, the attackers fired 14 rounds, of which 10 bullets allegedly struck Vinod. He died in the attack, while two of his associates were injured.

The incident had raised serious questions over security arrangements at the court complex. In protest against the daylight killing, the Hisar Bar Association suspended work on Friday.
Following the incident, Hisar SP Siddhant Jain directed that security arrangements at the court complex be strengthened and the premises secured more effectively.
