Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday condemned the Haryana Police for using force against protesters in Ambala who were demanding the release of two Sikh youths and registration of an FIR against an accused who had allegedly rammed his car into people.

Beware of the people protesting against you over these incidents, who otherwise have been according you a warm welcome in Punjab,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Akal Takht acting jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Harjinder Singh Dhami on Friday urged the Haryana government to resolve the matter through dialogue rather than allowing the situation to escalate into confrontation.

Giani Gargaj described the police action as “highly unfortunate and unjust” and also spoke with Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (HSGMC) chief Jagdish Singh Jhinda over the phone to inquire about his health and the condition of other injured persons.

Dhami said the issue should not be addressed through the use of force but through dialogue and lawful procedures. He demanded the immediate arrest of those accused of injuring devotees at Gurdwara Panjokhra Sahib and the release of the arrested Sikh youths.
