With full-dress rehearsal, PAU grounds set for I-Day event

With the city gearing up for the 80th Independence Day, the district administration on Thursday held a full-dress rehearsal at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) grounds, with marching contingents, a PT show and a colourful cultural programme giving a glimpse of the main celebrations.

Deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain presided over the rehearsal and unfurled the national flag before taking the salute from the participating contingents. The march past featured men and women contingents of the Punjab Police, Punjab Home Guards and NCC cadets, among others, under the command of PPS officer Harshpreet Singh.

After the rehearsal, Jain held a meeting with officials of various departments at the stadium to take stock of preparations for the August 15 celebrations. He reviewed arrangements and directed officials to complete all pending work within the stipulated time.

“Independence Day is an important national festival and there should be no lapse in arrangements,” Jain told officials, stressing meticulous planning, effective execution and coordination among departments.

DCP Harpal Singh and ADC Shikha Bhagat, besides officials from various departments, were present during the rehearsal.
