Special cell constituted for cutting of roads, repairs in Delhi

Delhi government forms a 20-member internal cell to coordinate road cutting permissions among agencies for better Yamuna rejuvenation efforts.

The Delhi government has constituted a dedicated special internal cell for coordination among various agencies for road cutting permissions following directions from the High-Level Committee on Yamuna Rejuvenation, officials said Friday.

The 20-member cell, to be headed by the member secretary of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), was constituted after a meeting of the high-level committee chaired by chief minister Rekha Gupta in January.

The cell will include officials from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Public Works Department (PWD), irrigation and flood control department, environment and forest department, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and Delhi Development Authority (DDA), among others.

The cell, constituted under the Delhi government’s urban development department, will submit draft compliance reports, coordinate issues among concerned departments, and facilitate information exchange. “The cell shall coordinate issues such as information exchange and inter-departmental coordination. Biweekly updates on progress by all concerned departments should be done by this cell through nodal officers,” the order read.

The order mandates that all work agencies share their plans over one, five, and 10 years for effective coordination and to avoid the cutting of the same roads by multiple agencies. Departments and agencies have been directed to cooperate with the cell, adhere strictly to prescribed timelines, and submit regular status reports.
