Commuters wade through flooded Delhi-Gurugram Expressway amid heavy rain

Several videos that surfaced online show traffic reduced to a crawl in some locations in Gurugram.

The Delhi-Gurugram Expressway on Thursday was submerged after Delhi-NCR witnessed incessant rainfall throughout the day. Pedestrians had to wade through knee-deep rainwater, while the vehicles moved at a snail's pace.

Numerous vehicles were observed passing on the inundated roads of the highway making attempts to exit the water logging. (ANI)

Several videos that surfaced online show traffic reduced to a crawl in some locations in Gurugram.

A traffic police advisory for Delhi-NCR said, "Due to continuous heavy rainfall in Gurugram, there is waterlogging at some places and the traffic is moving at a slow speed. Therefore, we request all of you that you should come out of the house only when necessary."

The waterlogging caused problems near Mayfield Garden, Basai Chowk, AIT Chowk, Atlas Chowk, CRPF Chowk and Sector 10-A. More than 1,000 traffic police personnel were deployed across the city soon after it started raining on Thursday morning.

According to the district administration, Gurugram on Thursday received 54 mm of rainfall, with Wazirabad receiving a maximum 60 mm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued an 'orange alert', cautioning people about sporadic heavy rain which could reduce visibility, disrupt traffic and damage kutcha roads and vulnerable structures.
