Man found dead at Gurugram police station premises, foul play ruled out

The body of a 40-year-old man was recovered from the Sector 56 police station premises on Wednesday, police said, adding that preliminary investigation had ruled out foul play.

The deceased was later identified as Mohammad Hafizul, who hailed from West Bengal’s Nadia district. A mobile phone and a paper allegedly used for consuming narcotics were recovered from his pocket, police said.

CCTV footage showed him entering the police station premises unchecked around 8.45pm on Tuesday while it was raining, investigators said. Police suspect that he was intoxicated and entered the premises to take shelter from the rain. Investigators said he may have sustained a head injury that might have ultimately resulted in his death.

A police officer spotted him under the truck around 2pm on Wednesday and pulled him out, only to find that he was dead. Senior officials were subsequently alerted and forensic experts were roped in for the investigation.

Sandeep Turan, Gurugram police public relations officer, said the body was sent for an autopsy.

“Preliminary investigation has ruled out any foul play. Exact cause of death will be established from autopsy,” he added.
