Police identified the man as Chhabile Deol, a native of Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh. He was the caretaker of a plant nursery in Block J of Palam Vihar.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 6.10 am on Thursday when Deol was sweeping the road in front of the nursery. They said a speeding mini truck bearing Delhi registration number hit him and fled from the spot.

A senior police officer, privy to the investigation, said that Deol was dragged for almost 15-20 metres and was then run over by the truck.

“He was killed instantly at the spot. Hearing a commotion, his family members came out to find him lying in a pool of blood and alerted the police control room, following which emergency response vehicles reached the spot,” the officer said.

Investigators said CCTV footage from the spot was scanned and the truck’s registration number was traced.

“The driver will be traced and arrested soon,” he added.
