A 19-year-old man was arrested for allegedly shooting dead his elder brother’s killer after waiting eight years to avenge the murder in Nuh, police said on Saturday.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday and taken on four-day police remand after being produced before a court on Friday. Police said at least 12 additional suspects in Monday night’s murder were yet to be arrested.
The killing took place in a field in Leharwari, Nuh’s Punhaha, where a 29-year-old man was allegedly shot in the head from close range. A murder case was registered at Sadar Punhana police station on Tuesday.
Police said within minutes of the killing, the suspect posted a social media status claiming he had avenged the murder of his elder brother, who was also shot dead in 2018.
Krishan Kumar, public relations officer of Nuh police, said the suspect confessed during questioning. “The accused was hardly 11 years old when his brother’s murder had taken place but was determined to kill the victim who was out on bail and facing trial in the case,” he said.
Investigators said the suspect told police he had spent the intervening years building his own network and arranging arms and ammunition to carry out the murder.
Police are trying to recover the weapon and establish the identities of other suspects involved in Monday’s killing, with the arrested man’s help, officials said.
