Raigad SP initiates inquiry in blast that injured 3 from bomb disposal squad

Navi Mumbai: A special inquiry committee has been formed to look into the blast that took place while disposing of explosives on Tuesday night at Mahad. Two police personnel from Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) attached to Raigad police sustained severe injuries in the blast.

“It is necessary to figure out the cause that led to the blast. So that the next time during such procedures, enough precaution can be taken. Among the three injured, one had faced minor injuries and is at Alibag civil hospital while the other two are recuperating at a hospital in Navi Mumbai,” said Raigad Superintendent of Police Ashok Dudhe.
The explosives, which included gelatin and detonators, were seized in a case registered with Mangaon police station in 2013.
Following the incident, Mahad MIDC police has made an ‘incident entry’ in the records. The injured were identified as constables Ramesh Kute (36), Ashirvad Ladage (45) and Rahul Patil (30).
“A total of five people were part of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, of which the three who got injured were from the technical team, one is dog handler and fifth is the driver. The trio was wearing the basic precautionary helmet and not the bomb suit. The vital parameters of the two who were severely injured are now stable,” sub-divisional police officer Nilesh Tambe, Mahad division, said.
“We are conducting an inquiry to understand about the distance that the technicians were at when the blast happened,” Tambe added.
On Tuesday at around 7 pm, the incident took place in an isolated area at Isane Kamble in the Mahad MIDC area.
