Ghaziabad: A 70-year-old farmer allegedly slashed his wrist on Saturday at government’s ‘Samadhan Diwas’ in Ghaziabad’s Modinagar and died before he could be admitted to a hospital in Meerut for higher medical treatment. The officials said that the deceased was alleging that the officials were not attending to his complaint for measurement of his land at Didoli village in Muradnagar.
The ‘Samadhan Diwas’ is a grievance-redressal meet where district administration and police officials listen to complaints of locals of the respective Tehsils. The day was held at Modinagar Tehsil where the incident happened.
The police said that Sushil Kumar, a native of Muzaffarnagar, died due to “heart stroke” while he was rushed to a hospital in Meerut. The police said that the man was initially taken to local community health centre (CHC) at Muradnagar.
“The man slashed his wrist at the Samadhan Diwas held at Modinagar Tehsil and he was rushed to local CHC from where he was rushed for higher treatment at Meerut. But he died before he could reach the hospital. He alleged that the local administration officials were not taking up measurement of his land at Didoli village. The doctors suspect a heart stroke, could be due to blood loss, but exact cause of death would come out in autopsy report,” said Ravi Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (DCP – Rural).
The district administration officials said that they have been asked to submit a report to the district magistrate on immediate basis.
“The report is being compiled and will be submitted soon. The deceased farmer had come to us with complaint in January and in March. He wanted measurement of his land whose part he suspected could have been merged into theirs by local house occupants. The area near to his land at Didoli village is amid Abadi (constructed residential area) and houses are constructed around it. In both cases our Lekhpal went to the spot and submitted the report on both occasions. The report said that the aggrieved man should file a case with the court of sub divisional magistrate (SDM) and thereafter a proper procedure could be initiated by calling nearby occupants,” said Shubhangi Shukla, SDM Modinagar.
The SDM said that on both the occasions the deceased did not file any case and yet again arrived on Saturday with a complaint at Samadhan Diwas. The SDM along with Modinagar ACP were present during the Samadhan Diwas at Modinagar Tehsil on Saturday.
“There, he was calling local mediapersons and was spotted with his wrist slashed. He was rushed by officials to CHC and thereafter referred to Meerut but he died on way. We are compling a report into the incident and it is sought by the district magistrate. The report will be submitted on immediate basis,” SDM added.
Several videos of the incident featuring the injured man also went viral on the social media.
The police said that they have not received any complaint from the family of the deceased so far as they live in Muzaffarnagar.
“The local revenue department officials attempted to file a complaint against the deceased but we declined to take it. If deceased man’s family approaches us, we will take appropriate action,” DCP added.
The officials said that the deceased had also taken some token money for sale of his land and the prospective purchaser was asking for exact measurement of the land before purchase.
