The project, being taken under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, will also include rooftop solar systems for residential and public buildings and solar streetlights along village roads and at public places.

“The proposed model solar village will include rooftop solar systems and solar street lighting. Solar energy-based facilities such as a milk chiller, flour mill and cold-press unit are also proposed to support rural livelihood activities,” said Lavlesh Kumar Sisodia, project officer, UP New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), Gautam Budh Nagar.

The project aims to reduce dependence on conventional power while creating local employment and income-generation opportunities. Officials said the model could also be replicated in other rural areas of Gautam Budh Nagar and Uttar Pradesh.

“The emphasis is on effective and time-bound implementation, better coordination among the departments concerned and ensuring that the benefits of the proposed solar projects reach villagers,” the DM said.

The plan also seeks to promote clean and green energy and increase energy self-reliance in the village, officials added.
