According to the police, the accused is originally from Mathura and resident of Sector 117.

Police received information on Sunday evening that a suspicious man was posing as a Delhi Police officer near the Sector 117 red light. A police team reached the spot and detained him for questioning.

Police said the accused failed to produce genuine documents and was subsequently arrested. A case under Sections 204 (personating a public servant), 205 (wearing garb used by a public servant with fraudulent intent), 337, 336(3), and 340(2), all related to forgery under the BNS was registered at Sector 113 police station.

Probe revealed that the accused wanted to become a police officer but failed to clear the Delhi Police recruitment exam. “So, he decided to impersonate an officer and got a uniform stitched around a fortnight ago. He also arranged fake documents and IDs,” said Pramod Kumar Singh, station house officer, Sector 113.

According to the FIR, the accused said he wore the uniform and ID card so that he would not have to pay shopkeepers for food.

Police also recovered a Hyundai i20 on which “Government Officer” was printed on the front and rear registration plates of the vehicle. A fake uniform, badges, four stars, seven fake Delhi Police IDs, and other documents were also recovered.
