Police identified the victim as Kunti Devi, originally from Bihar, who resided in Mamura, in Noida’s Sector 63.

The incident first came to light after a woman from Noida filed a complaint on August 24 of being threatened while also mentioning about a missing woman in her late 30s. In the FIR, the complainant said that her husband had married for a second time about two years ago and that woman was missing.

Police registered a case under Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS at the Phase 3 police station.

During subsequent investigation about the alleged missing woman, it was found that an unidentified woman’s body had been found in Mathura’s Jarara canal on July 30. When the missing person’s photo and the victim’s appearance matched, police detained the husband, who resides in Mamura.

“After killing his wife, the man, who drives a loading auto, transported her body in his vehicle to a Greater Noida’s Kot canal and dumped it. Later, the involvement of three of his relatives, including his brother, was also found in the crime,” the SHO added.

The officer said that the murder got revealed after the suspect’s first wife, who is fighting a divorce case with him in her hometown Etah, allegedly received a threat call from him.

“Over the phone call, the suspect threatened to kill her while stating that if she did not withdraw the court case against him, she would meet the same fate like his second wife (Kunti Devi). On suspicion, the woman found out that the second wife was actually missing and hence she approached the police,” the SHO said, adding that further investigation is underway in the case.
