Eight people including two children were injured in two different accidents near zero point on the Yamuna Expressway on Monday. The accidents took place due to low visibility during fog, said police officers.

In the first accident, a canter truck loaded with tomatoes flipped over the guardrail of the flyover at zero point and plunged into a ditch at 5am.

“The truck was going towards Greater Noida’s Pari Chowk when it flipped over and fell into a ditch. The driver, Danish, and his associate Rihan, sustained fractures but are out of danger. Both of them have been admitted to the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS),” the Noida police said in a statement.

In the second accident, a car going in the wrong direction towards Agra in the service lane of the Yamuna Expressway had a head-on collision with another car.

“A Renault Duster SUV collided with a Chevrolet Enjoy amid fog, 700 metres from the zero point on the Yamuna Expressway. Six people, including two children, were travelling in the Enjoy car while one person was driving the Duster. Six people sustained injuries in the collision. We took the injured to the hospital while both vehicles were removed,” said a senior officer at Dankaur police station.

The injured people were identified as Shailesh Asthana (40), a resident of ATS Greens Paradiso who was driving the Duster, while Kamal Pujari (68), Poonam (35), Amra (35) and two children aged 5 and 7.

“The driver of the Enjoy car, Sushil (40), was not injured. The airbags of the Duster also opened up during the accident. The passengers of the Enjoy car were going to Mirzapur from Delhi. All of them were given first aid and discharged from the hospital,” the officer said.

Legal proceedings in both cases are underway, the Noida police added in a statement.
