NEW DELHI: A 12-year-old girl was killed when a speeding DTC bus from the wrong side rammed into a two-wheeler her uncle riding to drop her off at school, on Dallupura Road in east Delhi on Friday morning, police said.
Police identified the deceased as Kayna Pal, a Class 8 student at a private school in the Dallupura area. She was on her way to school to attend Independence Day celebrations and a cultural programme when the accident occurred, her family said. Her uncle, Tinku Kumar, sustained injuries.
DCP (East) Rajeev Kumar said police received a PCR call about the accident around 8am. “The girl sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead. Her body has been shifted to LBS Hospital for necessary medico-legal proceedings,” the DCP said.
According to police, the bus was allegedly speeding and came from the opposite direction before moving into the wrong lane and hitting the two-wheeler. While Kayna’s uncle fell towards the roadside and survived, the girl came under the bus wheels, police said.
Following the accident, the girl’s uncle and some passersby allegedly tried to attack the bus and in the scuffle, the driver fled from the spot. Police later apprehended the driver, identified as a 45-year-old resident of the same area. Police said they took him for a medical examination and registered a case.

Kayna’s family demanded strict action against the driver, describing her as an exceptional student and a class topper who loved quizzes.
Her father, Aman Pal, who works at a private firm, said he was asleep when he received a call about the accident.
“My heart skipped a beat, and I immediately rushed to the area, hoping my daughter was safe. But she was crushed under the wheel,” he said.
He said Kayna had recently won a science quiz and secured an all-India rank 1, for which she had received a tablet.
In another incident, a five-year-old boy was killed after a truck allegedly hit a scooty he was riding with his parents near Mukundpur.
The accident took place around 5am on Tuesday near a metro pillar on Ring Road. Police said the boy, Garvit, was travelling with his father Abhishek Gour and mother Geeta Gour when the truck allegedly hit their scooty from behind.
All three fell onto the road, and Garvit came under the truck, sustaining fatal injuries. He was taken to BJRM Hospital, but declared brought dead. His parents sustained injuries.
The truck driver was arrested, and a case under sections 281 (rash driving), 125(a) (causing hurt) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Jahangir Puri police station. The child’s post-mortem examination was conducted, and his body was handed over to his relatives, police said.
Police said the boy was a Class 1 student at a private school, and his father worked at a private firm.
