New Delhi: Two days after a 69-year-old retired school teacher was found murdered and her house robbed in southeast Delhi’s Jangpura, police on Sunday said they have apprehended two men from Wazirabad, north Delhi, in connection with the case.
Police said the two suspects bought the stolen items from the accused. Police are yet to arrest the key accused.
A police officer said the accused is a history sheeter and targets upscale societies. “While the main accused is still on the run, his whereabouts have been traced. We recovered the stolen items from the two suspects, including gold ornaments and a mobile phone. They were planning to sell them further. The remaining jewellery is in the possession of the key accused,” the officer said.
Police said the two accused will also be booked under sections for robbery and burglary.
The deceased, Preeti Kumari, was found dead by her daughter on Friday morning, with her hands tied and face severely injured. Police suspect the attack took place between 3am and 4am on Friday, with the accused escaping with gold, a phone and cash.
“We have questioned several people, including shopkeepers and workers around the house. The woman had a habit of distributing tea and snacks to homeless people and workers in the area. She also volunteered at a dispensary. Many people knew her, and her house was always open for people around,” said another officer.
