Federation of Industrial and Commercial Organisation (FICO) president Gurmeet Singh Kular and head of the sewing machine division Gurmukh Singh Rupal submitted a memorandum to chairperson of the PSERC Viswajeet Khanna at a public hearing on Monday.

Industrialists said due to winters, the state has surplus electricity while its demand during night hours is low, thus authorities should provide electricity, which is an important raw material, at lower rates for consumption during the night.

Kular said the government must ensure an uninterrupted power supply to the sector and work towards providing it at a rate of 5 per unit, including all taxes and other charges. He added that the PSERC has doubled the service/ administration charges, which is unreasonable and the revised prices should be rolled back.

He said the state electricity department should tackle the incidents of power theft sternly to reduce losses.
